Maths Problems

Rote Learning

**Rote Learning can cause the dislike of maths and also a lack of confidence**.

Every child has to learn their times tables. Unfortunately we have been taught in a rote fashion. This is slow, very hard work and produces poor results. Learning them in a linear way it is difficult to know the answer instantly, for example–

1 x 2 = 2

2 x 2 = 4

3 x 2 = 6

Children will get the right answer when asked a question eg 3 x 7, but it is just too slow and requires too much thinking.

This is not using your memory in the most productive way to use your memory. This will not give you an instant answer.

Your memory has far greater potential than this, and there are better techniques to learn your tables which better utilise the way you memory works.

As adults, we have already learnt them, however, we can make a difference to our children.

There is a much better way.
